DNREC website adds new storytelling initiative

Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has launched a new interactive piece to its website to help inform residents.

The new initiative is called Environmental Perspectives and it takes a deeper look at environmental research, management, stewardship, and education related to the First State.

"The Environmental Perspectives is a new DNREC initiative that is designed to engage the public and increase transparency in areas that might be lost in translation, those that are data driven. So we’ve made them a little bit more compelling in a storytelling format,” said DNREC deputy secretary Lisa Borin Ogden.

Borin Ogden says one of the initial stories she finds most interesting has to do with horseshoe crabs.

She says it discusses how Delaware’s horseshoe crab population is growing and offers additional facts about horseshoe crabs and their history.

Borin Ogden says there are currently eight stories.

“Well the one that I’m really interested in is Clean Air. And I think that what we’re hoping to do is give people a perspective about that’s going on in Delaware. There’s also some that talk about how you can quote, unquote, Go Green and Save Green. I think I also like the one about Beaches just because it’s the summer," Borin Ogden said.
