Probation officers to patrol Halloween Night

Delaware Public Media

The Delaware Department of Correction says its probation officers will be out in force on Halloween Night.

State code requires all probation and parole supervised sex offenders to stay in their home with the lights off on October 31st after 6:00 pm - and they are not allowed to participate in Halloween activities.

DOC officials say more than four dozen probation officers will be conducting curfew checks at about 400 different residences.

In a statement DOC Commissioner Claire DeMatteis acknowledged many Delaware kids will be going door to door even with COVID-related precautions in place. She says probation officers  patrolling Saturday night are meant to “keep [the] family-focused event safe for everybody.”

Homeless sex offenders under Department of Correction supervision are required to report to their local Probation and Parole Office Saturday evening.
