The Green - June 12, 2020

Listen to this edition of The Green or individual segments below:

Protests over the past two weeks in the wake of the killing of George Floyd in police custody are bringing increased scrutiny to law enforcement practices and policies in Delaware.

And that scrutiny is already leading to some proposals from by state and local lawmakers to make changes.

As we look at these proposals - and what protesters are seeking - we see some common concerns and issues raised.  Over the past week Delaware Public Media’s Sophia Schmidt spent time reporting on some of these issues and concerns and joins us to offer an overview.

Delaware moves from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of its reopening plan this Monday.  Phase 1 allowed many stores to open their doors again, albeit with limited capacity.  Phase 2 allows even more things to open, and those already operating some additional capacity – up to 60 percent.

So, how are stores faring in this launch of a “new normal?”

We turn to contributor Eileen Dallabrida to get the lay of the land.

An executive order from Gov. John Carney earlier this month created a working group meant to prepare Delaware for a possible resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the fall.

The Pandemic Resurgence Advisory Committee meets for the first time this week.

Delaware Public Media’s Nick Ciolino recently spoke with one of the group’s co-chairs, Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long.

Museums, theaters and other arts institutions across Delaware have been closed since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in mid-March.

But as Delaware moves from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of its reopening plan, some are starting to welcome visitors back through their doors.

That includes the Milton Theatre.

And in this week’s Arts Playlist, its executive director Fred Munzert talks to Delaware Public Media’s Kelli Steele about trying to reconnect to its audience and recover from the impact of COVID-19.
