Gov. Carney approves Sussex County comp plan

Sussex County’s comprehensive plan has been approved by the state.

Gov. John Carney recently certified the plan, culminating more than two years of work by county officials.

In a letter, Carney cites a recommendation from the Cabinet Committee on State Planning Issues backing the plan.

Sussex County Council adopted its comp plan in December. Its 280-pages include more than 100 strategies on how the county can address issues like land use, conservation and economic development.

County Council has since agreed to prioritize five categories as it uses the plan to create new ordinances. Those are: improving roads, economic development, open spaces, agriculture and telecommunications.

Delaware law requires all of the state’s counties and municipalities to have a comprehensive plan for governing its land and to update the plan every 10 years.
