Barring any unforeseen disasters or political upheaval gas prices might have already peaked for 2020 according to AAA Mid-Atlantic.
Right now gas prices are about 20 cents lower than this time last year with the average gas price in Delaware sitting at $2.20 per gallon, and the national average is at $2.18.
AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Ken Grant says while the gas prices are low and remaining steady, there are specific situations that could make prices jump.
"Anything can disrupt supply lines whether it's natural forces or geopolitical forces, but all things being equal right now it does look like we may have seen our highest gas prices for 2020," Grant said.
Grant adds the low average price for gas is despite driving numbers picking up throughout the summer.
"We're starting to see more and more volume on the road," sai Grant. "We're still not quite up to those pre-COVID levels yet, but that demand may have reached a peak even as we're looking at more people taking road trips. There's still not a lot of people doing the same daily commute that they would have been doing had we not had COVID."
Regionally, the average price of gas in the Philadelphia area is at $2.40. In South Jersey, it’s about $2.17, while in Maryland it stands at $2.24.
