State Sen. Darius Brown is removed as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The move comes after Brown’s arrest Tuesday following an alleged altercation at a North Wilmington restaurant last weekend,

President Pro Temp David Sokola announced the decision Thursday. He says "I believe this step is necessary to allow the Committee to continue its critical work without distraction.”

Brown faces two misdemeanor charges after punching a woman in the face over an argument about a social media post, according to Delaware State Police.

Brown has been the chair of the judiciary committee since 2019.

Sokola announced the vice chair of the committee, Sen. Kyle Evans Gay will be taking Brown’s place as the chair of the committee. This is the fourth committee Evans Gay chairs.
