Delaware Public Media
Dale Cooke has been appointed as the new Mayor of Dewey Beach, replacing T.J. Rederfer who passed away earlier this month.

The Town of Dewey Beach has appointed an interim mayor.

The Dewey Beach Commissioners voted unanimously Friday to hand the job to current Town Commissioner and Secretary Dale Cooke.

Cooke was first elected to the town commission in 2002.

He steps in to replace Mayor T.J. Redefer, who died April 7th after a battle with pancreatic cancer.  Reder was 58-years-old.

The Commissioners also voted 3-1 to appoint Paul Bauer as the new secretary. Commissioner David Moskowitz was the lone “no” vote. Bauer was first elected in 2017.

Cooke and Bauer will now serve in their new roles until an organizational meeting is held following the town’s scheduled municipal election on September 26th

Redefer was elected mayor again in September 2019 and his term would have expired in September 2021.
