Poppiti announces run for New Castle County Council pres.

New Castle County’s Register of Wills plans to run for County Council President in next year’s election.

Wilmington lawyer Ciro Poppiti is going to try to unseat fellow Democrat and incumbent New Castle County Council President Karen Hartley-Nagle.

Poppiti has spent eight years in his current office and cites his experience in that role as his lead qualification. He touts his recovery of $2.3 million in “found” county money.

“Over the past eight years I have generated millions of dollars in literally found money for New Castle County,” said Poppiti. “I went back audited and filed and found the county was owed money and collected it.”

Poppiti lists public safety and land use as the most important issues facing the county.

“At the county level, if we’re taking care of public safety and we’re taking care of land use issues, then all the other wonderful things we do fall in line—whether it’s from our libraries, to our parks, to our community service initiatives,” he said.

Poppiti also ran for Lt. Governor in 2016 and finished fourth in a six-person Democratic primary.

He says he plans to formally announce his candidacy in January.

No Republican candidates have entered the race for New Castle County Council President so far.
