Congresswoman Lisa Blunt-Rochester supports impeaching the President

Delaware Public Media

Delaware’s sole Congresswoman Lisa Blunt-Rochester says she wants Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

She tweeted out her statement supporting impeachment Thursday afternoon.

The announcement comes a day after former special counsel Robert Mueller testified for seven hours before two House committees about his two-year investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

In her statement, Blunt-Rochester said Mueller made it “clear” Trump was not exonerated by the special counsel investigation and that Trump “was not always truthful in the written answers he submitted” to the then-special counsel.

She says she believes the House should continue its oversight role, but argues that beginning impeachment proceedings will give Congress “firmer legal ground on which to stand.”

She also says that without the policy against indicting a sitting president, Trump would likely be charged with a crime.

Blunt-Rochester joins a list of Democratic House members and 2020 presidential candidates who support impeaching the president.
