Former Delaware prosecutor disbarred after guilty plea

Delaware Public Media

The Delaware Supreme Court has disbarred former state prosecutor Daniel Simmons after pleading guilty to raping a teenage boy in March.

The ruling was issued by Chief Justice Leo Strine and Justices Randy Holland and Karen Valihura Wednesday after Simmons consented to the action.

He eventually plead guilty to fourth degree rape March 23 and faces up to 15 years in prison. Simmons will also be required to register as a sex offender and cannot have any contact with the victim.

The former prosecutor was arrested last May and was placed on administrative leave, resigning three days later.

Simmons will be sentenced next month.
