The University of Delaware names Provost Laura Carlson its interim president.
Carlson was appointed by the University’s Board of Trustees a few weeks after President Dennis Assanis announced he is stepping down on June 30. Carlson will take the reins on July 1.

Board of Trustees Chair Terri Kelly called Carlson an "excellent choice to take on this vital role," and added Carlson will work closely with Assanis over the next few weeks.
UD officials say they will begin the search for a new president over the course of the next academic year.
"Since coming to the University of Delaware three years ago, I have fallen in love with UD — the passion of our students, the brilliance and enduring commitment of our faculty and staff, and our close-knit Blue Hen community that extends from campus throughout the state and beyond,” Carlson said in a statement.
Carlson came to UD in 2022 after more than two decades at Notre Dame, where she served as a psychology professor and in a number of administrative roles, including vice president and associate provost.
She is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College with Master of Arts degree from Michigan State University a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
