Joy and protest at Juneteenth parade in Wilmington

Sophia Schmidt, Delaware Public Media

Marchers gathered at Rodney Square in Wilmington around 11 a.m., and started marching east down 10th Street around noon.

Several members of the Wilmington Police Department, including chief Robert Tracy, were present.

A drum line and step team led the march down 10th Street.

The march turned down a residential street on the East Side.

Residents opened their doors to watch.

Miss Juneteenths, past and present, prepared for the caravan organized by the Delaware Juneteenth Association at Christina Park.
