Convoy of Hope coming to Delaware for first time to help those in need

The Convoy of Hope is coming to Delaware for the first time.

The Convoy of Hope is coming to Dover this weekend.

The Convoy of Hope is bringing its mission to help people struggling to make ends-meet to the First State.

“The Convoy of Hope is a non-profit that is primarily - they are known for their disaster relief. But they also do these smaller, community event projects. So this is the first one in Delaware,” said Alyssa Babuca - co-coordinator of the Convoy of Hope, Dover.

She explains what the group hopes to accomplish here during its initial event.

"It’s an event that provides people, most likely in impoverished situations, with services and goods that they would possibly need that they might not have regional access to or have the knowledge of where to start with it.”

Babuca notes the Convoy of Hope specifically provides free haircuts and shoes - along with government services, including food vouchers to get non-perishable items to people in need.

The Convoy of Hope is this Saturday starting at 10 a.m. on Legislative Mall in downtown Dover. Local churches, state agencies and neighborhood businesses will be there to assist in the effort.

Convoy of Hope started in Missouri 20-plus years ago, with a goal of  bringing communities together to help those in need.

Babuca also points out that there is also a volunteer rally Friday at the Pentacostal of Dover Church on Denneys Road.  People interested in volunteering for Saturday’s Convoy of Hope can so do at the rally Friday at 7 p.m.
