August is about to begin, and that means planning for back to school. And there is one effort underway in Sussex County to assist some kids who need help getting their supplies.
The Sussex County Delaware Foster Parent Association is spearheading a supply drive aimed specifically at foster children.
The Association's president Rhonda Cipolla is a foster mom and says there are currently an estimated 150 foster children in Sussex County going back to school over the next several weeks.
“Basically we’re collecting anything that you see on some traditional back-to-school lists. We are doing backpacks and we’re trying to stuff them full of school supplies to be able to give to foster children and even have a few for potential kids who may come in to care right at the beginning of the school year,” Cipolla said.
The school supply drive will run through Monday, August 6th.
If you want to help, you can drop off school supplies at numerous locations across Sussex County. Locations include: Atlantic Finance in Delmar, The Car Store in Laurel, Sussex Eye Center and Walmart in Georgetown and Town Hall in Millville.
“We are collecting backpacks, binders, paper, pencils, pens, scissors, crayons, markers, dividers, composition notebooks, kleenex, hand sanitizer. Basically, if you see a school supply list anywhere, any of the stuff on there is stuff that we are also collecting,” said Cipolla.
