Speeding enforcement campaign nets hundreds of tickets

Delaware Public Media

More than a dozen law enforcement agencies throughout the state handed out nearly 400 speeding tickets during a targeted enforcement blitz last month.

Cops issued more than 800 total citations during the nearly 20-day blitz.

Lisa Flowers, a spokeswoman for the Office of Highway Safety, says speeding dramatically increases the likelihood of a crash.

“As we know, anytime you speed you’re not only breaking the law, you’re putting yourself, your passengers and others on the roadways at risk. So it’s important when you’re driving to remain focused and keep your eyes on the road and obey the speed limit,” Flowers said.

Last year, speeding was a factor in 35 percent of all fatal crashes in Delaware.

Since the beginning of 2016, 102 people have died from crashes on Delaware roadways. That’s down slightly from last year at this time.
