Survey ranks First State courts number one again

Delaware Public Media

A new survey of corporate lawyers in the private sector ranks Delaware’s court system as the fairest in America for a tenth consecutive time.

Conducted by an offshoot of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the survey ranks states in their treatment of class action lawsuits, how they handle the discovery process and how their courts award damages, among other indicators.

Delaware ranked number one in several of these categories and coming in second in the rest.

Since first conducting the survey in 2002 and publishing it periodically, Delaware has consistently topped the list.

This year, it shares the leaderboard with Vermont, Nebraska, Iowa and New Hampshire.

West Virginia was ranked last in the country, shortly followed by Louisiana, Illinois, California and Alabama.
