Delaware State University is shaking up its athletic department.
In a letter to the university community, DSU president Tony Allen announced Athletic Director Scott Gines is retiring and the school’s men’s and women’s basketball coaches will not return.
Allen said the school needs to "chart a new, bolder path for Delaware State University's athletic future."
"These changes have and will continue to require a healthy debate – nothing great happens without it," Allen wrote in his letter.
Gines will be replaced on an interim basis by Assistant AD and Compliance Director Alecia Gadson. Gadson has been at DSU since 2015 and was previously AD at Coppin State.
Men’s basketball coach Eric Skeeters is let go after three seasons that saw the team post a 16-64 record, including a 3-16 mark this season.
Women’s basketball coach Dave Caputo is out after three seasons and a 22-51 record. He led the team to a 3-12 record this season.
Allen says DSU’s Chief Operating Officer Cleon Cauley will lead the search for a new athletic director and interim basketball coaches will be named Monday.
