Big Barrel Country Music Festival canceled for 2016

Cathy Carter

There will be no Big Barrel Country Music Festival at The Woodlands in Dover this summer.

Festival organizers announced the cancellation on the festival's site Thursday. They offered apologies to attendees, artists and other partners but offered no other immediate explanation.

Ticketholders will get full automatic refunds starting next Monday.

The inaugural Big Barrel drew more than 30,000 people to the Dover International Speedway grounds last summer, a week after Firefly took place at the same site.

Organizers announced the second installment of Big Barrel for this coming June shortly after. Tickets had been on sale since late October. Brad Paisley was among the announced headliners.

Big Barrel was one of two major country music festivals to debut in Kent County last summer.  The other - Live Nation’s Delaware Junction - was also expected to return this summer to the Delaware State Fairgrounds, but it’s website and social media accounts have gone dark with no explanation..

More details are at bigbarrel.com.
