Rehoboth Beach among towns prepping for Small Business Saturday

Delaware Public Media
“Small Business Saturday” returns this weekend- seeking to get consumers to shop at small local businesses the day after the Black Friday frenzy.";s:

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and officials throughout Delaware urge everyone to shop local on “Small Business Saturday” tomorrow. And Rehoboth Beach is among those making that push.

The new executive director of Rehoboth Beach Main Street (RBMS) - Dan Slagle - has created a new event for Small Business Saturday called “Stop & Go Shop,” “The “Stop & Go” - we created this for the weekend. It’s very exciting to get shoppers to come downtown and shop. So I created this event for 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., where people can stop by and pick up bags full of coupons, menus, all kinds of different items and then go downtown and shop.”

Slagle says the goal is to drive business downtown to the mom and pop businesses along Rehoboth Avenue and help them thrive, "We want to show our future customers how wonderful Rehoboth is and all the different festivities going on.”

And Slagle notes that shoppers can also head to Penny Lane Mall and get up to four items gift wrapped for free while enjoying complimentary lite fare and beverages.

Slagle says he hopes the event and Small Business Saturday raise awareness for a different part of Rehoboth’s retail landscape, “I believe that we have all the Outlets out on the highway (Route 1) and we have different restaurants - which is wonderful. But we also have these beautiful stores downtown, which need to thrive. We want Rehoboth to grow and be a thriving, economic, vital Town. And I believe by coming up with different events - we get people to come downtown and see all these beautiful shops.”

Earlier this week, Sen. Tom Carper promoted Small Business Saturday by visiting new small businesses in Wilmington and a variety of shops in Bethany Beach.

Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express and is co-sponsored every year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. (SBA).
