One winning ticket in Powerball, not in First State

Delaware Public Media

There was just one winner in last night's $310 million Powerball drawing -- a ticket sold at a Shell station in Michigan.

If the winner takes that prize as a lump sum cash payment, they'll get just over $191 million. This is the largest jackpot win since August 1st and the largest since three winners split a $564 million dollar prize last February.

Last night's drawing was one of the last before Powerball changes its rules to make it harder to match all 5 numbers and the Powerball and win the jackpot.

The new rules go into effect after this coming Saturday’s drawing. They'll change the odds of winning from 1 in 175 million to 1 in about 292 million. With fewer winners of that top prize, larger jackpots like last night's could become more common.

The new rules are also designed to make it easier to win smaller prizes.
