Winterthur Museum has exceeded annual fundraising goal

Winterthur Museum has exceeded annual fundraising goal.

Winterthur Museum has set an annual fundraising record.

For the first time in its history, the Wilmington institution has surpassed $12 million in a fiscal year.

Winterthur received more than 12,000 gifts from nearly 11,000 donors.

Museum officials say the gifts will be used for priority initiatives across the institution including key endowments, exhibitions, collections acquisitions as well as various capital projects and general operating funds.

In a statement, Museum Director Dr. David Roselle said, “I hope everyone will take heart in the number and generosity of our friends, including many Winterthur employees, who contributed. The hard work and dedication of our staff and the volunteers make these goals reachable.”

Wintherthur is known its collection of American decorative arts and its naturalistic gardens. It was opened as a public museum in 1951 by Henry Francis du Pont. Through a partnership with the University of Delaware, the estate also trains conservators who work with historical objects, textiles and artwork. Its graduates can be found working in top museums around the world.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
