Delaware State is looking for a new head football coach.
The school announced Monday it will not renew Kermit Blount’s contract, letting him go after four seasons.
DSU makes the move after Blount and the Hornets went 2-and-10 this past season – including a 2-and-6 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference - which left them 10th in the 11-team conference.
Blount was 16-and-29 overall in his four year tenure at Del as head coach of the Hornets. His best season – and only winning season – was a 6-5 mark in 2012. That was DelState’s only winning campaign since its last won the MEAC title in 2007.
“We thank coach Blount for his service to our football program and the University the past four years, and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Athletic Director Candy Young in a statement. “The University will soon begin a national search for a new head football coach.”
Young also announced that Hornet assistant coach Andrew Faison will serve as interim head coach. Faison joined the DSU staff as safeties coach last spring.
