First State gas prices continue to plunge

Gas prices in Delaware continue a month-long summer slide.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in the Delaware dropped an additional six cents over the last seven days. Sunday – the price stood at was $3.45 – down from $3.51 a week. The First State average has fallen 21 cents over the last four weeks.

Delawareans are paying eight cents below the national average, which fell five cents last week to stand at $3.53 Sunday, and 23 cents less than a year ago when the average price per gallon for regular was $3.68.

AAA officials say abundant refinery production has trumped geopolitical tensions for now and they expect prices to fall even more over the coming weeks.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $3.35 or slightly less –mainly in New Castle County. A handful of stations are at $3.33 or below.
