DelDOT says repairs to the I-495 bridge over the Christina River remain ahead of pace.
Construction on 32 underground support columns wrapped up Wednesday, and holes made in the bridge deck, necessary for cranes to lower 150 foot steel reinforcing cages, have been closed.
Work to erect jacking towers intended to lift the bridge back into alignment continues. The jacking process could begin on the southbound side within two weeks.
The results of jacking process will determine how quickly the southbound lanes can reopen. DelDOT is holding off on announcing a specific date, but notes it expects traffic back on the southbound side of the bridge ahead its original Labor Day target.
Northbound lanes will return to use two weeks to a month after southbound lanes reopen.
