ESPN is expanding coverage this year of the two Little League Softball World Series tournaments in Roxana.
One Senior League softball semifinal game August 8 will be aired online at ESPN 3, while the second airs on ESPNU. The Championship game will air the following day on ESPN.
The Big League World Series semifinals will both air August 8th on ESPNU, and you’ll be able to catch the Championship game the next day on ESPN2.
Roy Lamberton, a spokesperson for the Little League Softball World Series in Delaware, says the increased coverage represents a growing appetite for softball in the First State and beyond.
“The significance? People want to watch girls play softball, I guess. We always get a good crowd in the stands, there’s interest in it,” said Lamberton. “Softball is not falling off like a lot of college sports. There’s a critical mass -- if half the kids born in America are female, it’s a great growth sport.”
Last year’s telecasts of the Softball World Series contests were some of the highest rated Little League World Series games shown on ESPN.
The Little League Senior Softball World Series has been played in Roxana since 2004. The Big League World Series joined it in Sussex County last year.
