Arthur may dampen some of First State's 4th of July weekend

Tropical Storm Arthur is arriving just in time for Independence Day.

The storm is expected to hit North Carolina the hardest, but Delaware could see rain showers and wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour starting Thursday night and into Friday, especially along the coast.

Joe Miketta, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says the weather won’t be too severe with the storm tracking out to sea, but those looking to hit the beach for the 4th should beware.

"The biggest danger of course is going to be rip currents, associated with the storm, this is the 4th of July weekend and a lot of people will be down at the beach. The rip currents will be a concern through a good part of the weekend," said Miketta.

Miketta adds that swimmers should avoid beaches without a lifeguard on duty.

But once the rain departs, Miketta says the rest of the weekend looks great.

Friday is going to the worst day. Saturday and Sunday will be very beautiful down at the beach," Miketta said "The waters will still be stirring up because of the storm, but the weather will be nice.

Saturday and Sunday should be sunny with temperatures in the low 80s.
