Competition among Sussex chefs to benefit Meals on Wheels

Chefs from several of Southern Delaware’s premier restaurants will cook for a cause Thursday night at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center in an event to benefit Sussex County seniors.

The inaugural Top Chef of the Culinary Coast competition will pit ten renowned chefs in a competition to raise money for Meals on Wheels-Lewes Rehoboth.

Patrons at the fundraising event will sample dishes and then cast their votes to pick a winner. Along with voting for Top Chef, there will be several other prizewinning categories including, “Most Creative Chef” and Best Reinvention of a Delmarva Tradition.”

The organization’s Director, Kathy Keuski says the admission price of $45 will directly support the agency’s mission.

“The money that will be raised will go towards paying for meals for Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth. So just buying a ticket alone you’re going to help feed a hungry senior, homebound senior, for a week.”

Keuski adds the home delivered food program serves a critical need.

“We’ve been in business for over 43 years serving Eastern Sussex county and we deliver meals to home bound seniors. Last year we delivered over 102,000 meals to over 290 home bound clients.”

On average, the organization reports a one to two percent increase each year in residents requesting the service.

Keuski says she appreciate the support of local chefs who have made Meals on Wheels one of their favorite causes.
