Limited state of emergency in Delaware, schools and government offices closed by winter storm

The impending winter storm has convinced some to announce closings and cancellations now, ahead of the snowy weather.

State of Delaware has issued a offices in New Castle and Kent counties are closed. Offices in Sussex County will open at 10am. Essential employees are to report as scheduled. The State has also announced a limited state of emergency. That includes a Level one driving warning, which means non-essential employees of public or private entities are encouraged not to drive unless they have a significant health, safety or business reason.

Appoquinimink, Brandywine, Christina, Colonial, New Castle County Vo-Tech and Red Clay school districts in New Castle County are closed Thursday.

In Central Delaware, Caesar Rodney, Capital, Lake Forest, Milford, Polytech, Smyrna and Woodbridge School Districts are closed Thursday. 12 month employees at Caesar Rodney and Capital are to report two hours late. 12 month employees at Smyrna School District are to report at 10am.

In Sussex County, Laurel, Seaford and Sussex Tech School Districts are closed. Indian River is opening two hours late.

Goldey-Beacom College in New Castle County is closed, along with Delaware Tech’s Wilmington, Stanton and Terry campuses. Wesley College opens at noon.

Dover Air Force Base has announced a three hour delay in normal reporting time for MEL 2 and 3 personnel Thursday, reporting no later than 11am. Day shift emergency and MEL 1 personnel should report as scheduled.

Dover, Newark and Wilmington say their offices will be closed today. New Castle County offices are also closed.

The New Castle County Courthouse and U.S. Bankruptcy and U.S District Courts in Wilmington have announced they will be closed Thursday.
