High school football titles on the line at Delaware Stadium

State champs in high school football will be crown at the University of Delaware for the first time in nearly 40 years this weekend.

UD’s 22,000 seat Delaware Stadium hosts the Division I and Division II title games Saturday. The championship games were last played at U-D in 1974.

The Division II final between top seed St. Georges and Hodgson is up first at 2pm.

11-1 St. Georges is making its first appearance in the championship game in just its sixth season as a program The Hawks look to avenge their only loss of the season, a 24-21 loss to Hodgson in September. Hodgson is 10-2.

The Division I final is set for 6 pm. It pits two–time defending champ Middletown against Salesianum. They also met during the regular season, with the Sals handing Middletown a 24-13 loss that ended the Cavaliers’ 23 game win streak.

Tickets are $8 and are good for both games.

The top seeds, St. Georges and Middletown, will have the West side bleachers on the South College Avenue side of the stadium. Fans from Hodgson and Salesianum are asked to use the East side stands.

Parking is free, but fans are reminded UD policy prohibits tailgating and alcoholic beverages.
