State Senate rejects pay increase recommendation

The General Assembly officially rejected the Delaware Compensation Commission’s report Wednesday.

The Senate voted unanimously to turn down the committee’s recommendation for pay raises nearly a week after the House voted against it.

The commission’s recommendation would’ve increased salaries for judges by 6 percent and salaries for some cabinet secretaries by between two and nine percent. The salary increases would have been phased in over two years.

And a new task force may be on the horizon.

The House unanimously passed a resolution that would create a task force to study the state’s workers’ compensation system.

Premium increases jumped by nearly 26 percent during the past two years, with bipartisan pushback from lawmakers and Governor Jack Markell.

That bill now heads to the Senate for approval.
