Pilot killed in plane crash near Dover

A small airplane crash near Dover Sunday claimed the life of the plane’s pilot.

The identity of the pilot, who was the only person on board, has not been released and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials are on their way to begin their investigation into the crash.

The single engine plane disappeared from radar after an emergency call was received by the control tower at Dover Air Force Base.

Officers from State Police, the Department of Natural Resources, Fish and Wildlife Division, and firefighters from Camden, Cheswold, Dover, Frederica, Hartly, Leipsic, and Little Creek began a search for the plane in the Little Creek area shortly after 7pm Sunday night.

Members of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company located the plane a little over two hours later at 9:35pm near White Oak Road, west of Long Point Road and East of Del. 1.
