Kevin Wade launches bid for U.S. Senate

Republican Kevin Wade officially entered this year’s race for the U.S. Senate seat held by incumbent Delaware Senator Thomas Carper (D). Wade made his formal announcement in front of family, friends, and Republican Party supporters at the historic New Castle Court House on Monday.

"I would not be standing here today if Tom Carper had done the job he was paid to do," said Wade, depicting Carper as a career politician in a broken Washington D.C. Carper is seeking a third term in the Senate.

"It's up to us, all of us regular people ... to come together to lift this country up, because the career politicians have broken it down," Wade said.

Owner and founder of a engineering company in Christiana, Wade says he offers voters a clear alternative to Carper. "He sees big government as the solution. I know big government is the cause of the problems we have today."

Wade blames Carper for having a hand in problems such as the national debt. Carper has “created it,” he said. “I'm going to wind it down."

Wade advocates overhauling the federal tax code, reducing the size of government, and increasing oil drilling in the U.S. He called for "a healthy and proper focus on the family." He also promised he would serve no more than two terms.

This is not Wade's first run for office. The 60-year-old New Castle resident sought the Republican nomination for Delaware's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010, but dropped out after finishing third to Michele Rollins and the party's eventual nominee, Glen Urquhart, in balloting for the party's endorsement at the state GOP convention.
