UD hopes NCAA tourney appearance is springboard to sustained success

[jwplayer config="jw-audio-only_post" mediaid="59274"]

The University of Delaware was one and done in the NCAA Tournament this week, falling to Michigan State 93-78 Thursday. The Blue Hens are now 0-5 all time in the Big Dance, but that does not diminish the accomplishments of a season that brought the team back to the tourney for the first time in 15 years.

Now, the focus turns to sustaining the success. In the 1990s, UD made a pair of back-to-back tournament appearances only to fall back into rebuilding mode.

Can it be different this time? The Green asked UD Athletic Director Eric Ziady, whose been on the job for a year and a half since coming from Boston College. (More)

The signup deadline for the Affordable Care Act is coming up fast. Like many states, Delaware has struggled to hit its enrollment targets. Earlier this month the number of Delawareans who had signed up using its health insurance marketplace was a little more than 7,000 -- far less than the original goal of 35,000 but closer to a revised goal of 8,000.

But there’s also a geographic hurdle the state is making a push to overcome. Delaware Public Media’s Sean Carlson takes a look. (More)

Arts Playlist: Heiser photo exhibit at Delaware Art Museum

[jwplayer config="jw-audio-only_post" mediaid="59271"]

We launch our new Arts Playlist segment with a visit to the Delaware Art Museum to learn about an exhibit featuring the photographs of Wilmington native Scott Heiser.

Best known for his innovative of fashion runway shows photo, Heiser also chronicled the cultural landscape of New York City in the Andy Warhol era and snapped performances from circuses to the Westminster Dog Show,

Heiser's promising career was cut short in 1993 when he died of complications from AIDS at age 44.

Heiser’s work has since been largely forgotten, but the Delaware Art Museum is bringing new life to it in “Fashion, Circus, Spectacle: Photographs by Scott Heiser"

Delaware Public Media's Cathy Carter toured the exhibit with its curator, Heather Campbell Coyle. (More)

Enlighten Me: Peregrine falcon webcam

[jwplayer config="jw-audio-only_post" mediaid="59272"]

Spring arrived this week and in this week’s Enlighten Me we look at something that’s become something a rite of spring in Wilmington ---Peregrine Falcons nesting at the Brandywine Building.

You can observe the activity in a nest box there via a web cam set up by the Delmarva Ornithological Society, DuPont's Clear into the Future, United States Fish & Wildlife Service, DNREC and the Buccini-Pollin Group.

Each year – that webcam provides a front row seat as eggs are laid and hatch. Then, nestlings quickly grow and learn to fly and hunt on their own before heading out on their own.

The show is already underway, with six eggs laid this year. This week we sat down with Delmarva Ornithological Society vice president Bill Stewart to learn more about the falcons and this window into their lives. (More)
