The New Year is underway and with it some changes in First State politics.

The change producing the most immediate news is the one at the top of Delaware’s Department of Justice. This week, former Lt. Gov. Matt Denn took over as state Attorney General.

After winning election, Denn promised to hit the ground running – and he did.

Tuesday, after taking his oath of office, Denn started rolling out initiatives to battle violent crime in the state, specifically Wilmington. A day later, he launched another initiative, restructuring the Department of Justice to create a new Office of Civil Rights and Public Trust, which will focus on areas such as discrimination in housing, employment and education, enforcement of election and other public trust laws and investigations involving police use of force. [jwplayer config="jw-audio-only_post" mediaid="71747"]

For over 30 years Greg Schauer owned and operated Between Books – a haven for comic book readers, tabletop gamers and die-hard science fiction and fantasy literature fans - in Claymont's Town and Country shopping center .

But in May 2013, the sluggish economy and rise of digital media and online shopping forced Schauer to close his doors, another casualty of the e-commerce revolution that brought down the Borders chain and many independent retailers.

Now just over a year and a half later, Schauer is back in business, relaunching Between Books on Philadelphia Pike just north of his old Claymont location.

His new home is drastically smaller, but Schauer is happy to be back and for this week’s Enlighten Me Delaware Public Media’s Karl Malgiero paid him a visit at his the new location. (More)
