DELAWARE IN FACT: The state of social media use

The state of Delaware has been working to build its social media presence.  DELAWARE IN FACT looks at some of the mileposts in that effort, and how Delaware and its governor stack-up against their bigger neighbors in the effort to connect with citizens online.

April 2009 : Delaware actively starts posting at its Facebook and Twitterhomes.  Active posts on the photo-sharing site Flickr follow in May 2009.  (These accounts include information from all agencies and the Governor’s office, across the state)

February 2010: Governor Markell launched his Twitter pagewith “First Tweet” at a Del-Tweet “Tweet-up” in February 2010.  The Governor’s Facebook page has existed since he took office, but made a strong push in spring 2010.

Several state agencies have also been beefing up their own social media efforts recently.  Click here for a complete listing of agencies using social media.

Delaware's outreach to its citizens stacks up well compared with its neighboring states, despite their much larger populations.
