Caesar Rodney notches OT win to open Slam Dunk tourney

The 2018 Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament opened Thursday in Lewes with a nail biter between two of Delaware’s top boys’ high school hoop teams.

5th ranked Caesar Rodney handed #4 Salesianum  its first loss of the season, edging the Sals in overtime 64-63.

CR’s Zayquan Eaton won it with a basketball at the buzzer in OT. Eaton’s layup at the end of regulation tied the game at 58, forcing overtime.

Caesar Rodney is now 6-1.  Salesianum falls to 4-1.

Top ranked Sanford was also a winner on Slam Dunk’s first day, routing host Cape Henlopen 68-31.

Two of the nation’s top 25 teams according to USA Today are on Friday’s schedule.

12th ranked Paul IV from Fairfax, Virginia faces Nevada’s Liberty High at 8 p.m. and number 15 Roselle Catholic from New Jersey meets Maryland’s Eleanor Roosevelt high school at noon.
