The 2020 election cycle is now in full swing.
As part of our election coverage, Delaware Public Media is offering a series a Candidate Conversations - including in the race for U.S. Senate.
We’ve reached out to all candidates that have filed to run in the races for U.S. House and U.S. Senate, as well as the races for state Governor, Lt. Governor and Insurance Commissioner and invited them to sit down with us. Candidates in each race are being asked about the same series of topics to allow you to get to know then and compare them.
In the race for U.S Senate, Delaware's junior Senator Chris Coons is seeking a second full term. Five other candidates are running for the seat, once held by Democratic Presidnential nominee Joe Biden, here in 2020.
Coons facs a Democratic primary challenge from Jessica Scarane. Jim DeMatino and Lauren Wizke face off in a Republican primary. Libertarian Nadine Frost and Mark Turley of the Independent Party of Delaware will join the primary winners in the Novmber general election ballot.
Candidate Conversations are part of Delaware Debates 2020, a collaboration between Delaware Public Media and the University of Delaware's Center for Political Communication.

Democrat Chris Coons is the incumbent. Delaware's junior senator was first elected to this seat in 2010, winning the right to fill the remaining four years left on the term Joe Biden won in 2008 by defeating Republican Christine O'Donnell. Coons won his first full term in the U.S. Senate in 2014, defeating Republican Kevin Wade.

Republican Jim DeMartino is a Lewes attorney making his first run for statewide office after losing bids to unseat Delaware House Speaker Pete Schwartzkopf in that Rehoboth Beach area House district in 2016 and 2018.

Libertarian Nadine Frost is running again for Senate after a failed bid for Sen. Tom Caper’s seat in 2018. She also unsuccessfully ran for Wilmington City Council in 2016.
