She reviews books for Newsday, People, Kirkus Review, Minneapolis Star-Tribune, and other venues; she is also a board member of the National Book Critics Circle. She is the author of nine books, is on the faculty of the MFA program at the University of Baltimore, and writes a monthly column for Baltimore Fishbowl.
