Wednesday is the filing deadline for personal income tax returns in Delaware.
This is not only for residents. Non-residents who work in Delaware, are also supposed to file a state income tax return.
The return needs to be postmarked by the end of the day, April 30, filed online, or turned in at one of the Division of Revenue offices in the state.
The Delaware Division of Revenue expects a fair-share of people to file for extensions, but the division notes any extensions are only for filing, not for paying if you owe the state money.
You can file for an extension either in person or online, but it has to be done by the end of the day.
Delaware Division of Revenue director Cathy Revel says if you’re owed a refund it will come to you quicker this year than in past years.
"Refunds are getting out if you have no exceptions and it does not require a manual review. Basically, your return comes in and matches all of our matching, it's going out in the eight days. If there is a manual review required, it's going out in like 35 days on average."
Revel notes the quicker times are because the division has worked to improve the processing system.
She adds you can call the Division of Revenue or visit one of their offices. They're open until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon if you have any issues or questions with filing your state income taxes.
The number to call is 302-577-8200, and you can even pay over the phone if you owe money. You can also be set up on a payment plan if you need one.
You can also go online to the Delaware Tax Portal at www.tax.Delaware.gov. You can file or pay your taxes online as well as file for an extension on the portal.
