Search for acting Superintendent of Christina School District begins

Delaware Public Media

The Christina School Board voted Thursday night to approve a job posting for an acting Superintendent. This comes after Freeman Williams went on an indefinite leave of absence August 5th.

The job posting for Christina’s new acting Superintendent went up Friday morning. It’s open to candidates who’ve previously served as either a principal or superintendent. The fact that the job search will be wide was a point of contention at Thursday night’s meeting.

Board member George Evans introduced an amendment to close the position to candidates without superintendent experience, but that proposal failed in a board vote.

"The debate within the Board is, do we need an acting superintendent that gets us through the opening of schools until the end of October, or do we need someone longer term in the event that Dr. Williams decides not to return as Superintendent?" Board Vice President Fred Polaski told Delaware Public Media Friday.

Polaski said he couldn’t comment either way on whether or not Dr. Williams plans to return.

The job posting will close on August 31st. Polaski says the Board will meet on September 3rd to see if they are ready to approve a hire.
