Winds gust upward of 50 mph in the First State

Delaware Public Media

Relentless winds are blowing across the First State Monday, with winds hitting between 40-50 mph.

"We have a strong area of low-pressure, which is going to be tracking up the East Coast today. It’s currently over the southeastern portions of the country and will be moving northeast into our region this afternoon. (It) will be moving away from the region tonight and into the day tomorrow," National Weather Service Meteorologist Mitchell Gains said.

Gaines said winds should subside overnight, with gusts between 20-30 mph. The National Weather Service forecasts rain to continue Tuesday, with wind gusting to 20 mph.

He said blowing winds like that are not typical and usually occur with a nor'easter.

"Especially with some of the stronger winds in the 50-60 mph range," Gains said.

The weather will trend sunny later this week, with highs in the 50s on Wednesday and Thursday.
