Cold temperatures and a stiff breeze will send overnight wind chills plummeting below zero early this week in Delaware.
National Weather Service forecaster Mitchell Gaines says winds will gust from 15 to 20 miles per hour through Tuesday, sending wind chills into the single digits and even below zero by early morning. He says that's cold, even by January standards.
"I wouldn't say that this is really cold weather, but it is a little bit chillier than average here," said Gaines.
And he notes it feels even colder after Delaware's record-setting warm December, but adds these temps won't last before things change.
"We're looking at a little of a moderating trend heading into Wednesday and Thursday. And that's ahead of a storm system which will be impacting the region Friday and Saturday," said Gaines.
He says he says temperatures will rise back to more standard daytime highs in the 30s, and depending which way that storm front from the south tracks, coastal Delaware could see rain, or some snow.
