Sussex County’s top engineer is stepping down after more than three decades.
Mike Izzo will retire from the position he’s held since 1996 on September 15th. Izzo oversees nine divisions that are responsible for designing, constructing and maintaining county projects.
Engineering is the largest department within county government with a staff of nearly 150 employees.
During his tenure, Izzo guided dozens of public projects including construction of the county’s 911 center, three public libraries and a new airport building and runway extension.
In addition, the Frankford resident oversaw the Nanticoke River dredging and park projects.
Izzo plans to move to the private sector following his retirement.
The Sussex County Council will conduct a national search for his replacement.
