Police warn of Rehoboth area phone scams

Delaware Public Media

Rehoboth Beach police are warning people about a pair of phone scams that have hit the area.In one, a person identified himself as Officer MacDonald from the Atlanta Detention Center. He called asking for bail money for his grandson. But when asked the name of his grandson, the caller did not know the name and the resident quickly hung up realizing it was a scam.

In the second phone scam, someone called saying they represented the U.S. Treasury Department and provided a reference case number. The caller asked for money and said an agent would be sent to their house if a payment was not paid. The resident realized it was a scam and notified police immediately.

Rehoboth Beach Police are urging residents to notify them immediately if they receive a questionable phone call.
