UD abandons data center project on its STAR Campus

In the end, it was a public rebuke for The Data Centers, a high-profile reversal for the University of Delaware, and a victory for community activists who fought the plan to build a data center and power plant on UD’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) campus. This week, UD pulled the plug on that plan by terminating its lease agreement with The Data Centers.

International expert offers insight on rip current dangers [jwplayer config="jw-audio-only_post" mediaid="64711"]
Over the 4th of July weekend, vacationers at Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches were kept out of the water Friday into Saturday over concerns of strong rip currents caused by Hurricane Arthur.
But rip currents can pose a danger anytime.
Rob Brander, an top international experts on rip currents, visited the First State this week to meet with area beach patrols and others about this issue. The associate professor at University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia also stopped by The Green.

The annual Delaware Shakespeare Festival is back for another season at Rockwood Park in Wilmington.
DSF’s yearly celebration of the Bard broke attendance records last summer and so this year the organization is upping the ante by staging what is arguably Shakespeare’s most famous work, ‘Hamlet.’

Enlighten Me: UD program nurtures civics skills for young African leaders

The national Young African Leaders Initiative, launched by President Obama in 2010, has brought 500 African activists, aged 25-35, to 20 U.S. universities this summer to engage in a program of academics, leadership skills training, community service and cultural immersion.
25 of those participants from 17 African countries are at UD focusing on civic leadership and governance.
