State titles in high school football are on the line Saturday.
For a second straight year, Smyrna and Middletown battle for the Division One state crown, squaring off at 1 p.m, at Delaware Stadium.
Smyrna looks to become the first team to win three straight titles since Delmar turned the trick in Division II from 2000-02. And it hasn’t happened in Division I team since Newark won five in a row from 1997-2001.
The Eagles also hope to avenge a 35-28 season opening loss at Middletown.
Middletown is seeking its fourth Division I title and first since 2012. Middletown also owns four Division Two titles.
The Division II title is up for grabs at 5:30 Saturday night when Delmar and Milford square off at Delaware Stadium.
Delmar is 11-1 and has won 10 straight to reach the state final. It’s looking for its 7th state crown, but first since its last trip to the final in 2009.
Milford is 9-3 and looking for its first championship since 2008.
The two met in the regular season with Delmar notching a 35-10 victory.
