Delaware boasts three semi-finalists in the prestigious James Beard Foundation awards this year.

Sam Calagione, the mastermind behind Dogfish Head Craft Brewery gets two semi-finalist nods this year.

One is for the bar program at his fledgling restaurant, Chesapeake & Maine in Rehoboth Beach, while he also earned his seventh straight nomination in the outstanding professional category.

Calagione has never taken home the top prize, despite making it to the final round six times.

Dwain Kalup, who’s been at the helm of Wilmington’s Domaine Hudson since 2013, will try to win the title of best chef in the Mid-Atlantic – one of the award’s most competitive categories.

Kalup graduated from the culinary program at the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 2004 and has had stints in Wilmington, Chicago and New York.

The foundation will name finalists in each category March 15 with winners selected in May.
