"Alice in Wonderland" theme for Odessa's holiday celebration

Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” is the theme for Odessa’s annual celebration of children’s literature during the holiday season.

A curated exhibit of holiday vignettes inspired by Carroll’s tale is now on view in the period rooms of the 246-year-old Wilson-Warner House.

“Imagine the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, a lavish table set with many teacups and many interesting animals and fantasy figures as well as a beautiful big American red damask covered wing chair for Alice,” says Debbie Buckson, Executive Director of the Historic Odessa Foundation.

The organization is also presenting a series of lectures and events to entertain Alice fans.

Thursday night will feature a curator Christmas exhibit presentation and Sunday, the former president of the Lewis Carroll Society of North America will present a lecture at the Odessa Visitors Center.

Buckson adds the town is going all out for the holiday season with their annual Christmas Holiday Tours.

“We have five major buildings in the historic center of Odessa that are open to the public including our restaurant Cantwell's Tavern, so you can really come and make an afternoon of it,” she says. “Every door in the town of Odessa is bedecked.  I mean, it's like stepping back in time.”

The Historic Houses of Odessa Christmas Holiday Tours take place Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 4:30 pm and 1pm to 4:30 pm Sundays through December 31.
