Delaware gas prices stable as summer season starts

Delaware Public Media

Gas prices in the First State have leveled off.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular is unchanged from last week – holding steady at $2.25.

And it remains significantly lower than what First State drivers were paying a year ago when the price was 42 cents higher at $2.67 a gallon.

According to Delaware gas prices.com, nearly a dozen stations around the state are offering a gallon of gas at $2.15 or less - all of them in New Castle County.

And while the national average stands $2.35 – up three cents from a week ago – it is also 40 cents below where it sat at this time last year.

“The summer driving season is off and running with gas prices at 11-year lows,” said AAA Mid-Atlantic's Jana Tidwell.  “Lower prices at the pump have contributed to the largest year-over-year growth in vehicle miles traveled in the Northeast.  This growth in demand appears to be offset by the region’s abundant supply, which should help keep a lid on prices as we enter the busy summer driving season.”
