Average gas price in Delaware sinks below $2.00

Delaware Public Media

First State drivers are getting an extra gift this holiday season when they fill up at the gas pump.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular dropped in Delaware officially fell below $2 for the first time in six years this week.

AAA says the average price statewide currently sits at $1.97 a gallon.  A year ago, it stood $2.61.  That translates to about a $10 difference in the average fill-up compare to this time last year.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $1.87 or less, mostly in New Castle County. The cheapest is $1.79 in Newark if you’re paying with cash.

Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of regular dropped slightly from $2.02 to $2.00 in the last week. Last year, the average was $2.47.

AAA anticipates gas should remain at this relatively inexpensive level this winter due to lower demand and typical seasonal trends.
